Rocks Rock!

I began painting with acrylic paint again when a friend invited me to a Kindness Rocks Facebook group. Right away my kids and I started painting rocks and hiding them around town.

Ours are tagged with “FB Plymouth-Canton Rocks!” on the back, so people can post that they found them. We don’t do it just to see the found post, but it sure does make our day when we see them.

My favorite experiences were when my son hid a “You’ve Got This!” rock, and a woman posted that she’d found it after her last shift at a store that was closing. Walking to her car, she was wondering how she was going to get through it, when she found that rock, and it made her feel more confident that she’d get through it ok.

Another was when I posted to the FB group asking if anyone had a visually impaired kid that was missing out on this experience. Someone responded that she did, so I made some with puffy paint for him and coordinated the hiding and finding with his mom to make sure he’d find them.

It’s a small act that gives my kids and me a creative outlet and helps make a positive impact on the lives of strangers.

I also helped start the Kindness Rocks Garden at my kids’ elementary school. Every year I work with the outgoing 5th graders to help them each paint a rock for it to leave a little piece of themselves at the school as they move on to middle school. The Hoben Kindness Rocks one is at the center of that garden.
